Looking to purchase expanded version of notion 6 for my son who is a composition/performance major.  But want to pair it with a new laptop that will optimize its performance. Any suggestions to what laptop would be best.  probably in windows but Mac suggestions to just in case. Thanks.  Ok, budget wise @2k.  32g ram min 1tb memory, probably and 2 in 1 since he can compose w/ stylist if need be.  Midi inputs would be sweet but can use an audio interface.  And preferably a 15.6 screen 4k and great sound/mic/camera. Ryzen 7, or i7 core processor.

Since you're being a cool dad I'll try to help but unfortunately there are too many questions unanswered and I'm not up to date on laptops.

Do you have a budget in mind? You're probably not going to get many recommendations without a budget listed( you can state that it doesn't matter). Or form factor 2in1, touch screen, screen size (13, 15, 17 inch), etc. You want at least an Intel i5 processor, 1TB Hard drive(NVME), and at least 16GB RAM( One of the downsides to laptops is that most of the time the RAM is soldered into the mainboard so it can't be upgraded later on. I'm glad I went with 32GB for that reason),  I honestly don't see you getting a lot of help in this forum. So I recommend figuring out some of these details and what else he will use the computer for. And editing/ updating this question and posting that info to https://old.reddit.com/r/SuggestALaptop/ as well. Good luck.

Hi.  To expand a bit.  Pieces of information will help others help you.  An idea of your budget is required, so is your country of residence.  In my case, I am in the U.K., so shops like Best Buy in the U.S. are no good to me.  Likewise, if you're in Canada or Australia, PC Specialist who build bespoke laptops, (like the one my Mrs has,) would be of little use being UK based.  Some models of laptop aren't available in all markets. ###  Wes has given some great tips as to what to look for.  It's worth pointing out that pound for pound, a laptop i5 won't be as powerful as a desktop i5.
