Hello,

I'm brand new to Studio One (and relatively new to recording/mixing). I am having difficulties with simple copy and paste, and need some guidance.  I'm sure the issue is simple, but I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Here is what I'm trying to do (hopefully I am using the correct terminology).

To help learn Studio One, I'm trying to experiment with creating a drum track using Impact. I want to split the track into separate events so that I can copy or duplicate sections.  I am able to edit and create sections, and can merge or split to create events (for intro, verses, chorus, etc). However, I can't figure out how to properly copy events within the track.  I can successfully use copy & paste, or duplicate (d) to append a copy of the event/section at the end of the track.  However, I can't seem to properly create copy of an event/section from the middle of a track.  For instance, if I have 3 events/sections created, and I want to copy the middle section and paste it to the end of the track, I am unable to do so. It does create a new section at the end, but it is empty. And the empty track is not even always the same length as what I tried to copy.

This should be simple, and am sure I'm missing something embarrassingly obvious.  Suggestions?  Or can anyone point me to videos or tutorials on the subject?

I'm on a mac.  Big Sur.

Thanks,

Mark

I'm not on a mac but the easiest way for me to copy from the middle of a track is to use track view up top, select the area you want to copy, right click and select 'split range'. Once the range is split you can just copy the section. to paste click on the top ruler to get the guide when you want and paste (ctrl-v on windows). Or you can use the edit pane, to view the wave file at the bottom of the screen. And then select the area and just copy and paste, without the need to splt the range. I hope that helps.

Thanks Wesley,

I had pretty much tried all of that without success.  But went and tried again.  Still wouldn't work...  but...  I found that I had somehow linked the 1st and 2nd sections. And when I tried to copy only one, I got those weird results. I was able to split them and can now copy & paste.

I think I'm not remembering to select in the correct portion of the track when editing.  I'll have to be more careful.  Powerful tool, but lots to learn.  Time for more tutorial, I guess.

Thank you for the reply!  It pointed me in the right direction.
