Imagine I create a group with all drum parts, where I only engage the editing properties. Then I want to go to the mixer and turn down the volume of snare top and bottom together. I select both tracks but since they are in a group, the two faders don't move together. Then I would be forced to add a volume group for snare top-bottom or move them separately.
In DAWS like Logic, creating groups doesn't make the DAW lose the properties of selecting more than one track. Apart from volume, this could apply for solo, mute, etc.
