I thought of an idea to help musicians who archive songs and want to reopen them in the future. One problem with many VSTi creators is they update their instrument, but the new one is not backwards compatible with the existing one. This prevents reopening older songs in the DAW.

I tend to freeze tracks to alleviate this issue, but it would be great if there was a screenshot of the VSTi stored with the track (when the track was frozen) that could be shown to the user. This way, if the VSTi doesn't exist anymore (due to not being installed, or upgraded to an incompatible format -- for example Kontakt 5 vs 6), the musician can use the screenshot to attempt to recreate the sounds in the new version of the VSTi.
