I have used DAWS and lots of other software (video editors, DBs etc) for several decades, but SO only since V3.
SO at least twice a year crashes to such an extent a complete reinstall is eventually necessary - as none of the fixes suggested by your techies can solve the problems that popped up. The same with the one I am experiencing right now. This would be my 3rd reinstall this year. It is annoying to during each reinstall need to download and reinstall the complete data set. That means several GB through medium bandwidth and many wasted hours on each occasion. And the nightmare is to get all the external plugins going again.
There are many software programs I use that do not require a complete reinstall as in their design the core programmatic modules are separated from data handling - which is in fact good design. Many of such reinstalls also do not interfere with the user preferences of the previous version. A good core should be able to handle any novel data thrown at it. After all, to call up external plugins one only needs to point to their location on disk, and voila, most are available for use. Why must SO's soundsets be different?
If S0 ever gets a good overhaul, can you please make reinstall easier?
