We use all shielded Cat-6a Ethercon. HOWEVER, we have had to remove the ground (the shield) from one end of the shielded cable. This was to ensure no static or grounding issues occur with the AVB network. When we had the shield on both ends of the cable, this caused a lot of problems, we had audio drop-outs occur often.
We keep the other end of the cable with the shield attached. This will ensure a discharge path from the cable when electrical energy builds in the cable.
Presonus does reference the use of NTP cable. Presonus does mention the use of Cat-5e as being compatible with all their networking devices. Is Cat-6a preferred...? That would depend on the setup and the expectations of AVB.
