Why am I not able to hear and record the imported/dragged instrumental format when i press the record button?

I've got an Aspire E 15 Windows 8. I've installed the Audiobox studio one 3 version of the presonus hardware on my PC. I've figured out how to convert an Mp3 format to a WAV but I can't hear the instrumental when I press record

Can you explain in more detail?   

Are you saying that when you try to record another track against an instrumental / music backing track, that you can't hear the backing track?
