How can I get the modulation wheel on my M-Audio Keystation 49es?

While playing my M-Audio Workstation 49es through Studio One 3, the modulation wheel does not work.  I've read somewhere in the forums that the four filter boxes under the External setup need to be unchecked.  I have unchecked all four boxes but the modulation wheel still does not work.  The pitch bend works perfectly fine; just no luck with modulation wheel.  I know there has to be something very simple that I'm missing.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

Make sure you haven't mapped (Learned) the Modulation wheel to the Control Link system. External device controllers mapped to Studio One's Control Link system are not being passed through to the Instrument tracks as MIDI data but are being used for automation targets.

Thanks for the answer niles but I haven't mapped/learned any controls from the midi to Studio One.  I have basically setup the M-Audio as a new keyboard and began playing without mapping.

@timstewart answer: Okay no mapping. So there's nothing moving in the Control Link windows (top left) when moving the Modulation wheel!

Do you see the B0 01 xx messages in the MIDI monitor (no filter boxes ticked) when moving the Modulation wheel?

If yes, is there also activity on the (orange) Instrument tracks's activity meter?

@niles, I do see B0 00 information in the MIDI monitor and there is also a (orange) signal in the activity meter.

After typing this, the modulation is working on some of the MIDI instruments.  For example, I have a Wurlitzer Hard sound I'm using that the modulation wheel is working fine.  However, the modulation wheel will not work with some of the organ sounds I'm choosing.  This is probably a stupid question, but are there certain sounds files that will allow you to use the modulation wheel?   Thanks.

answer by timstewart: Yes it depends if there's a modulator function attached to the Modulation wheel within the instrument. This goes for the Presence instruments, but also for 3rd party instruments.
