I read of some issues after the upgrade from 3 to 4, I would like to save space on disk and remove v3, do you recommend to keep it instead? Any advantage/disadvantage you can list?

Is there any risk of losing important SW components when uninstalling v3 after having upgraded to v4?

Uninstalling version three will not cause any harm to version 4.  You can keep version 3 installed if you want until you are sure that you'll never need to use it anymore.
