I am  little confused about the AVB card. Will I be able to hook an Ear Mix 16M directly to the board? or do I need another piece of hardware? Or will it work with the AI series at all?

Yes, it is indeed possible to integrate the EarMix into an AI mixer. It will require you having to add a Series III rack mixer and the following link will cover its connection and how it would work.
