I'm doing a lot of large gospel shows and live recordings so I need large amounts of i/o. I stayed away from the Series iii mixers because it was my understanding that you could not expand the system beyond 32 channels (via cascading mixers or adding NSB stage boxes)

But I heard that with the new firmware upgrade that I can...for example...daisy chain two 32Rs...or take a 32R, and an NSB 16 and create a 48 channel system and record all 48 channels in Capture.

And if so, do i need an AVB switch to do it?

If you want more than 32 channels you'll have to go with the 64s. Even then you need a series III rack mixer or NSBs to get more than 32 simultaneous channels.

The 32Rs do not daisy chain. You can use one as front of house and one as a stagebox but you still only get 32 channels of input at a time.
