I am seriously thinking of buying the USB 96 as a way to use guitar and audio input with my MacBook pro. People don't mention garage band which is what I have - is that because using garage band is a bit naff?  I have been looking on the web and this site and people seem to often have software issues with getting the system to work.  Perhaps that's because those who have no problems don't post questions but I'm wondering if I should take note of those who have been frustrated with setup or not.  Would it be better to upgrade to a more up-to-date mac first?  Mine is MacBookPro11,2.  So a few years old.  Am I safe to go for it, or should I consider any other issues first?

I assume you've answered this already, but I have been using the PreSonus AudioBox USB96 with Adobe Audition on a MacStudio running Ventura 13.0.1.  It's perfectly compatible.  Before that I was using it on a 2011 iMac, and same -- so problems.  I'd say you are safe to go for it.  Also, make sure to download the latest firmware, just released.
