This would be helpful when you have "auto punch out" enabled.
As a guitar player (or any instrument) it's hard to end your note PERFECTLY on the measure, so this would essentially capture another 1 second of data so I can use a bend marker and drag it back for a nice smooth ending instead of abrupt, truncated waveform.
