AudioBox iTwo running on Microsoft Surface on battery

When I'm recording in my DAW while my Microsoft Surface is powerd with the adaptor, then it works perfect!

But if I disconnect the powercable, even playing an audiotrack, it is crackeling-fest. If I look to the performance window in the DAW the cpu is working at 25%, just as the harddisk. (It's an intel i5 CPU with 8gig ram). I can't figure it out why I can't record when the Surface just runs on battery, even with Win10 in airplane mode. Mayby a voltage dropdown on the usb-port?

I tested it also in Studio One 3, same issues.
Is there anyone who can help me with this?

Thx!
