Series III mixer and multitrack recording question

After reading all the product info and questions re Studio live and recording I am still a little confused. I understand that I can record a multitrack show on the card and dump into Studio One on my MBPro  and mix.  My question is: if I decide I want to redo a vocal, add a track etc, can I plug in a mic to my Studiolive and record into the (previously recorded) project on Studio One? Furthermore, can I record multitrack recordings directly into Studio One i.e., use this for a home studio? If not, I'm sure what the purpose of the USB and AVB inputs into the laptop is.  Btw I have a MBPro with thunderbolt 2

Yes.

Just like the previous AI series, which uses FireWire for multitrack, the Series III mixers can multitrack recording / playback audio via USB. The mixer has a driver for Windows use (ASIO) and on OSX / macOS it is USB class compliant, requiring NO driver for use.
